The Aeolus Stone
secrets of the sands...

The group go their separate ways in the emporium. R searches for her brother, A investigates the Halic family. T and D are coaxed into taking a beautiful vase from a pottery vendor, a sculpted mouth on the vase speaks to T, telling her that she “is to be tested…”, the message is from the local preservers and T is instructed to meet them alone, T tells skeptical D to stay with the others, for their help will be needed. D tries in vain to keep T close. Finding himself free from any Suli-Jann harassment, H and Elle head to the Pilgrim tents but are stopped by the strange goings-on atThe Ageless Stone of Aeolus, a group of Devoted sit around a large stone that has been oddly shaped by the Draji wind. Two Devoted sit on thrones placed at either side of the Aeolus stone, pilgrims and Susa citizens line up to pay one ceramic for an hour’s service by the throned Devoted. K is asked by the Daughters of the Dawnflower to deliver an evening meal to the Devoted, he arrives with a loaded goat cart just in time to meet up with D and H. H is called “Desert Father” by the Devoted and he approaches to touch the wind swept stone, visions of flying over the White Erg fill his mind, the Sphynx constellation burns brightly in the night sky, below it the dunes swirl and drift to expose a doorway. H is drawn to this place and he asks D and K to accompany him on a quest there. The trio buy supplies and a camel and head into the White Erg. On the second day of their journey they see a large black tent. They approach and discover that the tent is merely a small model set atop curious shimmering crystals. Suspecting a trap, K ties a rope around his waist gives the loose end to H and rushes forward and falls into a large pit. The trio are ambushed by hidden archers and a ogre attempts to grapple K. H charges the archers in their fox holes as D returns fire, K easily dispatches the ogre. The hobgoblin slavers soon lay slain, their vile blood soaking into the desert sands.

The heroes collect the spoils of battle and continue towards the herald stars…

Under the protection of Morthern Salz

The group talk over their next move inside the windmill, they notice that Absalom Urtun Mespazarek seems to sprout whiskers and fuzzy hair whenever he gets close to the cursed millstone… Hadar recalls A being bitten by a wererat earlier. Deciding to talk to the Miller before sleeping and seeing a group of Suli-Jann approaching A, Dermina, Tamora, and Kenyon Wanamingo sneak down to the mansion, A successfully scales the low mud wall and into the garden… D, T, and K follow after a short pause to improve their sneak attempts. Inside the mansion the Miller pleads with the Suli-Jann, A steps in and informs them about the strange-happenings in the windmill, he escorts 3 Suli-Jann to the mill, 2 ride strange horses with croc heads. H, Elle, and Riham are slowly making their way to the mansion and are halted by a mounted SJ. T and D address the Miller and SJ in the mansion, tensions are high. K picks dates in the garden. Outside the SJ demand that A, H, and R come with them for further interrogation, A sends a message with his hawk informing Morthern Salz that he has acquired the elephant… The group is herded into the mansion abd are ordered to lay down their weapons by the SJ. Outside K sees a procession of heavily armed men dressed in Scarlet approach the mansion gate. Salz Dynasty retainer Courtland intervenes and blocks the SJ attempt to arrest the heroes. Courtland offers refuge in the Salz estate. The heroes are taken to the bathhouse where they rest and heal up, promised a meeting with Morthern the next morning. Elle is claimed by Salz and taken to an enclosure in the menagerie, H accompanies her not wanting to give her over. D scouts the estate’s perimeter, K attempts to carouse with guards and cooks, all are much to well-behaved to be any fun. An extravagant celebration has been planned for the following day in honor of Salz’s new elephant. The heroes meet Morthern Salz in his grand greeting chamber, the over indulgent man is slightly obese and is carted around by his attendants, a large Sand Fluke suckles on his neck. MS is happy for the elephant and rewards A with a large sum of ceramics to share with the group, they are given scarlet sashes to wear and are also granted access to a vault containing magikal items confiscated by the SJ. Courtland informs A that his next priority should be the discovery of the Halic Dynasty salt source, he is urged to use the help of his new friends. The party begins and Elle and H are forced into festive costumes, coaxed by A, K dances with the Daughters of the Dawnflower, T, D, and R talk about missing Thet. All are disturbed by the decadence and waste surrounding them. K arranges a shared devotion with the Sarenrae priestesses.

The group heads to the emporium to gear-up and prepare for their next undertaking…

Mwangi tribeswomen and the cursed Millstone

Dermina and Tamora are searching Susa for the Defiler that decimated their Elven tribe, thinking that the poisoned grain may be the work of their enemy they follow an angry mob to the Miller’s mansion. Absalom Urtun Mespazarek sets out to investigate the recent elephant rumors, sending his hawk Mekelech to scout for the strange animal. After defeating the Suli-Jann Riham, Hadar, and Kenyon Wanamingo briefly rest with the carpet-weavers, Anatolia Dalmisthura “Anat” decides that things are a little too dangerous for him at the moment and heads off by himself. R discovers that her brother Thet is missing from the corral, told by a camel-jokey that she herself just moments ago led him by the hand further into the city. As the mob clashes with the Miller’s retainers guarding the mansion’s gate, Absalom eyes the elven outlanders and offers his services to the suspicious pair, after being exposed as an outlander himself by Mekelech they decide to investigate the Miller’s estate. R, H, and K are swept up in the angry mob heading to the Miller, H has placed a blanket over Elle in an attempt to disguise her, K tries to calm the mob with a peaceful dance but only manages to incite them further. As they pass the Suli-Jann statue R rushes for the front door, believing that they have taken Thet, H follows with Elle, the two collapse asleep before they can get close. After coaxing Elle back with wine K wakes H who heads back for R, H falls asleep again, K wakes H with hurled rocks and they drag R away from the warded area. After seeing a flying carpet hovering above them in the night sky H finds a Sylvan note on his saddle dropped there by Mekelech, the note tells him to take Elle to the Salz menagerie for safe keeping… H, K, and R follow the hawk’s trail to the Miller’s estate. Meanwhile A, T and D have approached a strange windmill that is moving despite the lack of any blowing wind, the group is confronted with an awful stench and a pile of dead and eaten cats lying in front of the mill’s door. They enter and see a hunched figure pouring grain into a black millstone, D advances and discovers that the figure is a wererat… A joins D inside the windmill and shoots a flaming sphere at the ratman and is bitten by a second wererat, T uses message to communicate with the group and detect magic on the black millstone, discerning it’s properties… H, K and R arrive and join the fray. Deadly violet fungus grow and emerge from piles of flour, T is struck with a flesh rotting tentacle, the group soon dispatch the vile fungi and their spores. They then turn their attention to the millstone and set about stopping its conjuring turning, K climbs to the top and sets a brick into the gears straining the vertical shaft that H and Elle shatter with numerous gore attacks.

The heroes pause to catch their breath…

a Sandstorm, some Poison Grain, and the Suli-Jann
and everybody wants an Elephant...

Anatolia Dalmisthura “Anat” is rudely awakened by the Host of “The Drunken Giant” cantina after a long night of carousing with Kenyon Wanamingo. They managed to rack up a sizable bill and Anat is forced to pay it off by being the waterboy for a group of mercenaries going out on patrol in the White Erg. Riham and her brother Thet have made the journey across the Erg with their tribe’s 8 best camels, the wandering hermit Hadar is close behind them… an odd sandstorm whirls nearby. Anat and the mercs soon encounter Riham and Hadar and no sooner than hello the sandstorm hits and all drop for cover. The group soon realizes that the storm is unnatural after a merc, a gnome chair, and Riham are tossed through the air by the twister, they take up arms and fight the sandstorm air elemental. After defeating it they head into Susa where Riham sells some camels, Hadar’s elephant “Ele” is celebrated by the Pilgrims, and Anat hauls barrels of poison grain (grain from the local Miller is poisoned) from the cantina, his new friend Faus helps out, the two find Kenyon sleeping in the storeroom, who also helps move the grain. Hadar is confronted by black cowled Suli-Jann who try to steal Ele, he fights them off, killing one, the corpse explodes in a sudden flash of light. Hadar and Riham hide with a Pilgrim family. The group regathers and decide to investigate the source of the poisoned grain, meeting at night on a nearby dune, where they are again confronted by Suli-Jann, who they defeat.

Now, off to the grainery…
